People have the desire and capacity to heal and grow.
Sometimes we need a little help or support during that process.
About Our Work
Counseling is not a one size fits all modality. Because of that, I offer different types of counseling. I work with individuals, couples, and groups.
Individual and couples counseling sessions are 50 minutes in length. I charge $180 per 50-minute counseling session. I have a limited number of reduced fee slots available.
I also offer 85-minute sessions for $300.
I accept cash, checks, or credit cards at the time of service. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact me and we can discuss your specific situation.
Sex Therapy
Going to counseling can seem scary because you might not know what to expect. More than that, talking to a stranger about sex might feel terrifying. I offer a warm, safe, nonjudgmental environment to talk about sex and sexuality.
Some of the areas of sex we might discuss include:
Desire discrepancies between you and your partner
Increasing passion and pleasure in your relationship
Ways to talk to your partner about sex and your sexual desires
Spicing up your sex life
Sexual Difficulties related to disability or illness
Addressing shame around your sexual fantasies or preferences
Difficulty with orgasm
Sex for the single person – realizing your potential for pleasure
Couples Therapy
I believe that our quality of life is significantly impacted by our relationship with others. Relationships can be tough. We grow up hearing about the fairy tale and honeymoon stage, but people don’t talk about how hard relationships can be. We are combining two different styles of communication, two different histories and two different ways of doing things. Sometimes, that can create conflict. It can be helpful to have an outside perspective. That’s my role in couples counseling. I don’t take sides, but rather help you see each other’s side.
Couples Counseling can help you:
Reduce Conflict and learn about “fair fighting”
Improve communication
Increase intimacy between you and your partner
Reignite that “spark” between you and your partner
Determine if it is better to separate rather than stay together
Individual Psychotherapy
In this go go go society, it can be hard to slow down and take time for yourself. Individual counseling gives you an opportunity to do just that. Our sessions are tailored to what you need most. Whether it’s support, encouragement, or skill-building.
Individual Counseling might focus on:
Balancing life stressors
Self-connection, compassion, and trust
Personal relationship history
Pleasure, desire, orgasm, erotic connection, and arousal
Communicating with others and asking for what you need
Retreats & Workshops
It can be very powerful to be part of a group with a shared experience. In a group setting, we can learn new skills, receive support from others who have experienced similar obstacles and feel like we are not alone. Often retreats and travel events help us focus on the present, set day-to-day distractions aside, and truly savor pleasure and delight. Please see my events page to see what groups and retreats I am currently offering.
I also offer workshops several times per year. Check out my events page to find out about my next workshop.
If you want to be a master of sex you have to be in a place of curiosity… and trusting.
What is Sex Therapy?
Sex therapy is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on sexual concerns or difficulties. What happens in a sex therapy session is similar to what happens in other counseling sessions. We meet in my office and talk about your sexual issues, concerns, or behaviors, as well as, other themes in your life. Each session is unique and tailored to help you address your specific circumstances.
If you are coming in because of a problem or difficulties we will look at how long it has been going on and what has or hasn’t helped in the past. If you are in a relationship we may explore that too as sometimes other areas of your relationship can affect your sexuality. We may also talk about different things you can try at home between sessions (this may include reading, watching videos, talking with your partner, or trying different activities alone or with your partner).
You will never be asked to remove your clothing or to do anything in a therapy session that may make you feel uncomfortable. In no instances will a Sex Therapist engage in any kind of sexual activity with a client, whether in the office or in any location. To do so is a breach of ethics, and in some states and provinces is a crime.
Do you work with clients around themes other than sex and relationships?
Absolutely. If you are looking for counseling for a reason that is not sexually or relationship-based please feel free to contact me and we will see if it’s a good fit. Also, if you initially start counseling to address sexuality or relations and something else becomes a bigger concern we can address it.
How long does counseling take?
There is no “right answer.” Some people come to counseling for a few sessions and others continue coming for a longer period of time.
The length of counseling can depend on multiple things, including the number of problems/concerns you want to address, the complexity of the problem/s, how long it has been going on, and the amount of time you can spend working on your difficulties between sessions. If at any time you feel “stuck” or that you aren’t making progress please bring that up with me.
Is therapy confidential?
In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a counselor. I will not disclose your information without written permission. However, there are a number of exceptions to this rule.
Exceptions include:
Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse.
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s.
If a client intends to harm himself or herself.
Reporting information required by court proceeds or defense of claims brought by a client against the counselor.
Possible case consultation with counselor’s supervisor.
We will discuss confidentiality during our first session. Please let me know if you have any questions about confidentiality or the above exceptions.
Do you take insurance?
I am not affiliated with any insurance companies. I am happy to provide you with a receipt that may allow you to file an insurance claim for your session.
What does LPC mean?
I am a licensed professional counselor. I’ve completed thousands of hours supporting diverse couples and relationships. As an LPC I abide by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists Code of Ethics.
